Category: Press KitTough start for Fulgenzi in Magny-Cours. Immediate chance to bounce back in Paul Ricard’s Round 2.

After the amazing results reached during the official tests the Dobermann was set to a rocket start of his season. The lack of testing on the 992 GT3 Cup blocked his hopes and put him in seventh and eleventh places in the races.

Before Carrera Cup France’s Round 1 Enrico Fulgenzi Racing brought the 992 GT3 Cup cars on track only once and with great results. The other top teams (as CLRT, Martinet by Almeras or Lechner Racing) had way more testing days or also races on those new machines, as they also compete in Porsche Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, and they had a lot of chances to improve the car’s handling, setup and performance.

Thursday’s free practice, run on wet/damp track conditions, gave Fulgenzi a second place at the end of the day, showing the pure performance of car and driver off.

Friday started with qualifying pracitce session, which saw drivers hunting the purple lap for 30 minutes and line up in 15 between one second gap! Fulgenzi qualified in P7 for race 1, and in P11 for race 2.

Race one went down in the late afternoon of Friday, with standing start as always distinguishing the Carrera Cup France. 30 minutes of racing saw a compact lane of fast drivers, led by Dorian Boccolacci (former F2 driver and winner of both races). The top 5 drivers (all coming from Porsche Supercup) got a bit of gap and managed to run away from the drivers behind. Simmenauer, Fulgenzi and Quaresmini crossed under checquered behind the, after an intense battle which went down during the entire race. The race ended under safety car due to a big shunt which went down during the final laps (VIDEO) and luckily saw all the drivers OK and safely walking away from the cars by their own.

The racing schedule was moved one day earlier due to the track-sharing with the FANATEC GT World Challenge; race 2 was then raced on Saturday.

Friday evening was all about setup changes for Enrico Fulgenzi Racing, the team tried some new approaches on the front of the car, similar to the one used on the 991 cars, which sadly didn’t work on the 992 car. The comeback didn’t verify, and after another battle with Quaresmini and Petelet Fulgenzi closed in P11.

Round 2 will be hosted by the beautiful location of the Circuit Paul Ricard, after a test day scheduled for the 13th of may. This test day will give to Enrico Fulgenzi Racing a chance to close the gap from the top field crews.
